As any major awards ceremony nears, one notices an outcry for introducing fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.
My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
- Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
- Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're small games, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
